The chaos and joy of 2024

As we skid to the finish line for 2024, we’re raising a glass to a year filled with nice wins, cool things, and just the right amount of chaos. From smashing records for our clients to soaking up soundbites at SXSW Sydney, here’s what we’re celebrating.

Client wins worth a fist-pump.

While 2024 had its fair share of challenges, our clients still managed to pull off some absolutely ridiculous results. Here’s what we’re super proud of:

  • One ecommerce client saw an impressive 70% revenue increase on Black Friday compared to last year. This topped off a record-breaking year across the board, a massive achievement all round.

  • Another client reported their busiest September-November period in more than 10 years. For a category that’s had to work extra hard this year, this is nothing short of legendary. From their strategy and brand to social media, paid digital, and sales collateral, we’ve been in it with them and it’s been such a joy to see it all pay off.

  • While things aren’t easy in the tech sector at the moment, we’re particularly proud of a key client who still delivered their biggest year of growth ever despite many challenges. What’s their secret? A combo of resilience, consistency, clever strategy and us cheering them on from the sidelines like overly enthusiastic parents at a school play.

SXSW wisdom and the daddest of dad jokes.

In October, our founder Carolyn hit SXSW Sydney and came back with a Notes app full of pithy quotes, perfect for an agency end of year wrap-up blog. Here are a few favourites:

  • "I tried to do it the way men do it and realised that was stupid." – Suzie Miller, Playwright (Turns out the secret sauce is doing it your own way)

  • "Picking spinach, scrubbing potatoes – it's all worth it." – Josh Niland, chef and restaurateur (Proof that greatness starts in the weeds)

  • "For too long, the burden of (online) safety has fallen on the user, and it needs to shift to the platforms who have the collective brilliance and tools to take responsibility." – Julie Inman-Grant, eSafety Commissioner (Can we make Julie Prime Minister already?)

  • "Dad jokes are the farts of the comedy world" – Eugene Healy, Brand Strategist (Hey, we don’t make the rules)

  • "Obsession is caring about millions of microscopic details." – Ben Shewry, chef and restaurateur (A love letter to the small things that make a big difference)

Our end of year tradition.

We like to end every year with a bang and by that, we mean commissioning a drop-dead gorgeous card to share with our clients, partners, and agency friends.

This year’s showstopper? A stunning design by Janelle Burger, a Noongar and Italian illustrator based in Paris. Janelle’s unique style captured the kind of optimism we’re all clinging to after the rollercoaster ride that was 2024. Huge kudos to Janelle and the team at Solid Lines for bringing this beauty to life.

If you’re on our mailing list, keep an eye on your mailbox (so retro, we know). This one’s a keeper!

What’s next? Oh, just world domination (or something like that).

With the new year knocking at the door, we’re deep into planning mode for our clients across ecommerce, tech, retail, and beyond. We’ve got some epic branding projects set to launch in the new year and a whole heap of ideas we’re dying to unleash.

Let’s just say it’s going to be big. Very big. If you’d like to follow along, sign up for only the juiciest Village gossip via our newsletter. Here’s to 2025!
